Sycamore Road Project

Transforming SEND Education in Rotherham

The Sycamore Road project represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure a safe, fit-for-purpose and sustainable college environment that meets rising need for SEND education across Rotherham and South Yorkshire.

Our Starting Point

The Sycamore Road site requires significant renovation to create a safe, welcoming and fully accessible environment where our students can learn the skills they need for a successful transition into adulthood. To transform the site into a purpose‑designed space for SEND education, we must undertake a major programme of refurbishment and development, which is why fundraising is essential to help us bring the project to life.

The Sycamore Road Site

The Sycamore Road site offers approximately 20,000 sq ft of internal space across two buildings, a significant increase from the 6,500 sq ft available at MyPlace. It features a secure perimeter with controlled access, on‑site parking and a safe drop‑off and pick‑up area, along with outdoor space that can be used for learning, wellbeing and recreation. The location also benefits from excellent transport links, including nearby bus routes and a planned cycle lane, making it easily accessible for students, families and staff. The Sycamore Road development will create a modern, inclusive SEND learning environment including:

Purpose-designed classrooms and breakout spaces
Vocational learning spaces
Quiet rooms and 1:1 support rooms
Personal care and first aid facilities
A training kitchen
A Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and separate gym
Outdoor learning and recreational areas

When is ROC moving?

The move to Sycamore Road will happen gradually as renovation progresses. This has been divided into phases to more clearly explain the renovation process.

How will we support you?

We will keep students, parents/carers fully supported throughout the move by sharing photos and updates that explain each stage of the transition. Students will continue to have opportunities to visit the new site in small groups so they can explore the spaces and build confidence before the move takes place. Our Student Council will play an active role too, helping shape the transition and giving feedback on what students need. We will also keep a Sycamore Road webpage updated so parents and carers can follow progress and feel reassured every step of the way.

How can you support us?

Your involvement helps us create the very best environment for students as we move to Sycamore Road. There are several meaningful ways you can make a difference.

  • Join our fundraising efforts. Every contribution helps us enhance the new site with specialist equipment, sensory resources and community spaces that will benefit all students.
  • Get involved with Friends of ROC. Our new charity brings together parents, carers, staff and community members who want to support the college. Whether you can offer time, ideas or connections, your involvement is always valued.
  • Share our updates. Spreading the word about our move and sharing our fundraiaing posts on social media helps us reach more people and build wider support for our students.
  • Encourage your young person. Talking positively about the move, celebrating progress and joining us at events helps build confidence and excitement as we transition.

Together, we can make Sycamore Road a place where every student feels proud, confident and ready to thrive.
