The lively Valentine’s Disco at Rotherham Opportunities College (ROC) turned into an unforgettable night of dancing, fun, and fundraising, raising a fantastic £344 for Sam’s Army, a charity whose “main aim is to increase awareness of the dangers associated with swimming in open waters.”
The highlight of the night wasn’t just the music – it was the raffle that promised a variety of fantastic prizes, including a signed Rotherham United Football, chocolate hampers, luxury beauty products and more. Everyone at ROC wants to extend a huge thank you for the fantastic prizes that were donated by the following generous donors:
Rotherham United Football Club
Davian’s fish Bar, Middle Lane
Asda, Aldwarke Lane
Morrisons, Parkgate
One Beyond, Rotherham Town Centre
Kemps, Rotherham Indoor Market
TKMaxx, Parkgate
Tesco, Rotherham Town Centre.
The funds raised will go towards Sam’s Army’s Mission 1 Life, which was established in memory of 16-year-old Sam Haycock, who tragically lost his life while walking around Ulley Country Park’s reservoir in May 2021. In the wake of this devastating event, Sam’s family created the charity to raise awareness about the dangers of swimming in open waters and to provide life-saving equipment around these areas. Their primary goal is to save lives, with a mission to prevent others from experiencing similar tragedies.
We are absolutely thrilled with the generosity of everyone who both donated prizes for the raffle and purchased tickets. “The community really came together to support such a worthy cause, and it was a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with our fabulous students.
The Valentine’s disco gave our students the opportunity to express themselves, enjoy some groovy music and dance with their friends. Events like these provide a safe space for our SEND students to engage in activities that ultimately help build their confidence and aid their personal progression.
