Opportunities Pathway

Building confidence and developing independence

Opportunities Pathway at Rotherham Opportunities College

Working at pre-entry level and beyond, this pathway will embed and promote positive student wellbeing, confidence, independence and communication skills within all aspects of the Opportunities curriculum.

Intent

Holistic in its delivery, yet student centred; we focus on key areas such as cognitive development, social interaction, self determination and community awareness.   Active thinking, communication and social interaction are promoted.

Implementation

Students work towards highly personalised targets in their own time with the support of skilled tutoring staff and a therapy team to help them to achieve.

A focus on working memory and sequential tasks allows students to build task ability at an appropriate pace and students learn through experiencing.

Impact

Students will have raised expectations and have knowledge of their options and opportunities beyond college.

Students will be able to communicate their voice with confidence through intensive support with speech and language.
Students will have increased independence and feel safe within the community
