ROCking on the radio!

Rotherham Opportunities College students hit the airwaves on Monday the 27th of January to discuss their experiences at college.

A small number of students broadcast live on a local Rotherham radio station, RedRoad FM, to talk about all things ROC. Students discuss their favourite enrichment activities, the Ulley Café, sports at the leisure centre and even choose which songs to feature on the radio!

In addition to chatting about their college life, two students had the opportunity to act as the interviewer. Josh interviewed ROC’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Events Coordinator, while Christian spoke with Lauren, the Managing Director of Thrive Disability Daycare.

Zoe, one of the students, said she felt “happy, so proud and amazed”. She was especially excited for her family to hear her on the radio. Christian also enjoyed the opportunity, saying it was “very exciting” to talk about college. Mark shared his enthusiasm, noting that he enjoyed discussing his college life and sports activities at the leisure centre. He added, “I would like to do it again!”

ROC’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and Events Coordinator, Rotherham Opportunities College, shared his enthusiasm: “All the students loved talking to RedRoad FM about college and the things they enjoy. It was a fantastic opportunity for ROC, and we would love to host them again.”

This radio experience was an invaluable opportunity for the students as it is not only exciting, but it encourages their independence and allows them to be a part of the local community.
