ROC Students gift of warmth to Rotherham Hospital this winter

Students from Rotherham Opportunities College are helping to ensure no patient at Rotherham Hospital goes home cold this winter by contributing 40 coats to the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity Coat Rack appeal.

It is the second consecutive year that students at the college have supported the appeal, which was created to ensure that patients discharged from hospital receive suitable warm winter clothing as they make their journey home.

Throughout the autumn term, students spent time collecting unwanted clothing, and after successfully filling a full coat rack with warm clothing, students and staff visited Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity to donate to the hospital appeal.

Students from ROC presented 40 coats to the Rotherham Hospital appeal.

Rachael Dawes, Head of Fundraising, said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to the Rotherham Opportunities College for their generous donation of 40 coats. Their support for the Trust’s Coat Rack initiative will make a real difference, ensuring patients leave hospital warm and comfortable and knowing that someone cares about them.

It’s wonderful to see our community coming together to help those in need, especially at Christmas. The appeal has had such an amazing response that we have paused it for now, but watch this space for it beginning again in 2025.”

Dr Perdita Mouseley, Principal, Rotherham Opportunities College, said:

“Supporting initiatives like Rotherham Hospital’s winter coat appeal helps our students to forge stronger connections to the communities in which they live, as well as helping to support some of the most vulnerable members of society this winter.

The winter coat appeal is one of a number of community-led initiatives we support in college. Throughout the year, we encourage our students to play active roles in the community, giving them the chance to experience a wide range of activities including volunteering and working with the community. This work can play a key role in student development, helping our young people to build confidence and learn new skills.
